Carl’s Musings
Carl’s Musings
2010
For some reason I had this feeling it had been maybe 4 months since I blogged. Turns out it’s almost 10 months. Part of the difficulty now is making up for lost time, but I may just post a couple photos and try to keep in touch better now.
A couple weeks back we took the weekend and camped just down the road at a nearby campground. The kids love it and always beg for just one more night sleeping in the tent. I remember our first camp out, Mish and I didn’t get a lot of sleep, as the experience was so novel for the kids. Nowadays they do great, and even try really hard to be quiet in the morning, reading stories or playing Uno or other little games so they won’t disturb Mom and Dad too early.
We found that this campground has an amazing beach nearby. We live in a beachside town, but the contour of the beach is very steep, making it hard to take kids in the water. There’s a quick drop off to deep water, and the waves really pound. This beach, just 20 mins down the road or so, is a really gradual slope. The kids could walk in up to their knees without the next wave towering over them! We’d planned on just a walk, since it was a windy, overcast and rather chilly day. But once they got close, my girls couldn’t resist the waves. In about 3 minutes, Marae was lying down in the waves fully dressed, and Elise was wading in.
Nate (not in the photo!) is still a bit cautious about the sea. He likes it eventually but takes his time coming closer...he likes the sea, but on his terms. All three of the kids are in swimming this year, so that’s helped with his comfort level in the water, but I’m happy to have one cautious kid, for the time being!
